Bola Abisogun OBE has joined BIM Academy as its new Digital Director to establish strong business links with both UK and international clients, advising on digital transformation strategies.

Bola is admired within the construction industry for his commitment and service to introducing new, innovative digital practices to businesses in the UK and USA. With a coveted career history spanning three decades within the AEC industry, Bola’s achievements were recognised in 2019 when he was awarded an OBE from the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for Services to Diversity and Young People in the Construction Industry.

Bola is a qualified and experienced Chartered Quantity Surveyor, bringing with him to BIM Academy a wealth of expertise in Construction Cost Management, BIM and digital construction methodologies. In 1994 he articulated his first ‘process level’ digital twin, founded in BIM enabled workflows, premised upon the ‘ontology of data’.

In 1998, he began to champion the project delivery benefits of BIM in the Surveying profession, which culminated in several sector wide discussions and several insightful papers.

Throughout his career to date, Bola has successfully delivered in excess of £8bn of Capital Projects across the UK, with a focus on public sector housing, education and health. The introduction of new legislative requirements, including the Building Safety Act 2022, presents an exciting milestone in the delivery of digital asset management.

More recently, Bola completed a 32 month secondment at Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB), with his body of work and digital twin use-case arising from his appointment onto the coveted Gemini Council, whose remit was to produce the over-arching legacy the CDBB / Gemini Papers. With this wealth of experience, Bola will be bringing his knowledge of building safety and The Golden Thread to BIM Academy and applying this to client projects.

BIM Academy Managing Director, Dr Graham Kelly said of Bola’s appointment: “Bola not only brings his extensive industry experience to the team, but his excellent strategic and leadership skills. He has impressed the team already with his structured and focused industry-improvement mindset. He is a great fit for BIM Academy, with the combination of skills and expertise to support the business through our next strategic growth phase.”

Bola added: “Joining BIM Academy is an exciting new opportunity with immense growth potential. BIM Academy has been at the forefront of the industry in digital transformation for over a decade, and I look forward to working closely with the senior leadership team to create a vigorous growth path for the business. We have plans in place for new skills development services for clients and industry-changing initiatives. The next 12 months are going to be critical for BIM delivery within the AEC industry, and BIM Academy will be at the forefront of this change process.”

Bola joins a team of strategists, researchers and innovators, working to meet some of the world’s greatest challenges in digital asset information management.
