Virtual Project is an intensive 3-day course designed to allow participants to experience BIM in a real time collaborative environment and to explore the Level 2 BIM project process with none of the risks or costs that arise on a real project. Virtual project is a structured course based on a real project and collaborative multidisciplinary working.
Using the most up-to-date and popular BIM software, and with the support of experienced trainers and excellent training materials, the course offers a real opportunity to experience multi-disciplinary project working in a common data environment: the very essence of Level 2 BIM.
The course follows the pattern of project work stages defined in the RIBA Digital Plan of Work and adopted by PAS-1192-2. The course opens with a series of positional lectures, discussion sessions and BIM case studies to contextualise the whole event.
Drawing on the concepts detailed in the current UK BIM documentation, often referred to as the Eight Pillars of BIM, the role of the Common Data Environment (CDE), Employers Information Requirements (EIR) and the BIM Execution plan (BEP) are introduced, and the use of Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) data drops are explained and prepared. From Stage 2 onwards the work is essentially ‘hands on’ with a range of proprietary software products being made available for delegates’ use.
