How would you summarise your current role?
I am responsible for software development. I have more than 20 years of experience of working on software and technology projects in a variety of industries.
What inspires you?
People do amazing things. I am particularly inspired by people who do whatever it is that they do, with a smile on their face, and a willingness to share their knowledge and experience with others.
What do you believe are the current challenges in our industry and how can we overcome them?
The clear accurate and open exchange of information across all levels of this industry has always been difficult to achieve. I believe that open standards like BIM, based on real-world best practice, and the careful development of tools and processes in collaboration with a wide range of people, are already helping us along the way to an industry with much improved flows of information.
What is your proudest moment?
Watching my children grow up to be the intelligent, funny, kind and interesting people they are today.
What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?
You don’t have to wait until everything’s perfect before you begin, just begin. Starting something at the bottom is always better than not starting something at all. Also, wear a hat when it’s sunny.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
When I was much younger (and much fitter) I was an international gymnast.
