Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) and Sakthi Excellence Academy (SEA), both located in Coimbatore, India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BIM Academy as part of their partnership for training in 2022. Starting in March 2022, BIM Academy will deliver comprehensive BIM knowledge transfer and training programmes for KCT and SEA. This support will aid the development of core capabilities within their in-house faculty to enable them to then progress to training their students, as well as supporting the delivery of professional training across the construction industry in India. The first stages of the training will be delivered virtually via BIM Academy online classrooms and will cover subjects from our Learning and Development portfolio, which include: BIM Fundamentals, BIM Project Delivery, BIM for Operations, BIM for Health and Safety and Understanding COBie. In addition to this, we will be authoring bespoke training modules that address the specific needs of professionals in India working within the BIM and digital construction environment. The construction industry is the second largest major contributor to the Indian economy, and this is having a major impact on the future of housing, infrastructure and commercial building projects. Now is the right time for the India government and leading education and training providers, to start investing in digital innovation and increasing its use of modern methods of construction (MMC). India is expected to have a population of 1.4 billion by 2025, surpassing China – this will generate a pressing need for more housing stock, education spaces and improved infrastructure. Once the initial train the trainers courses are complete, the KCT faculty will then train local students on a BIM practitioner courses, for which BIM Academy will support remotely with a series of virtual sessions to the students. A further part of the partnership agreement with KCT, is for BIM Academy to run a series of two-day virtual BIM for Professionals course, which will be delivered to the Indian market starting in the summer of 2022. The professional courses will take place several times a year and continue into 2023. On completion of any of the BIM Academy approved courses, learners will be awarded a BIM Academy training certificate, accredited by BIM Academy in association with Northumbria University in the UK. Training of this nature not only introduces new skill sets, but awareness of new technologies and processes that will improve project delivery and beyond, through the life-cycle performance of the built assets needed to safeguard the future of India’s rapidly growing population.
