Emine Mine Thompson is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering and Environment. Emine has substantive expertise in areas related to digital place-making activities, in particular to smart and future cities, virtual city modelling, and city information modelling, virtual reality and augmented reality. She is part of the Virtual Reality and Visualisation (VRV) group and leads the flagship project Virtual NewcastleGathead (VNG) project along with other colleagues within VRV. She focuses on smart / future cities with a public engagement and involvement perspective.
Emine has published a number of key articles on digital place-making, smart and future cities, virtual city modelling, and city information modelling, and has organised international conference(s) / (sessions) on these issues. She is also full member the eCAADe Council (Education and research in Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe)- an organisation that promotes good practice and sharing information in relation to the use of computers in research and education in architecture and related professions.
