David is an Associate Professor and the Director of Enterprise and Engagement at the department of Architecture and the Built Environment at Northumbria University. He has vast expertise in research with IKEA and Skanska into the use of Modern Methods of Constructions (MMC) and timber framed systems to create affordable and environmentally considerate housing culminating in the award-winning timber framed system for BoKlok (IKEA) for housing in the UK and European market. Prior to becoming one of the founding members of the BIM Academy David was the lead architect for IKEA BoKlok. David’s interests are the advancement in construction technology, use of materials and development of new design techniques, the use of BIM Building Information Modelling in the many stages of design process
His research into Digital Praxis in the exploration of architectural design has led to him becoming guest and keynote speaker at National, International Conferences and European Summits. He is also visiting Professor at L’école d’ingénieurs El.Cesi, Paris and Visiting Professor Formación y Consultoría BIM, Barcelona. David won the ‘Best Lecturer’ Award at Northumbria University at the Student Led Teaching Awards 2016. David’s PhD focuses on the use of Digital Praxis in learning and understanding in the architectural environment. This had led to research and links with the gaming industry to utilise gaming engines in immersive environments and, becoming a member of the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) Future Skills Advisory Group.
