We are delighted to announce BIM Academy has been shortlisted in the British Construction Industry Awards (BCIA) and NCE TechFest awards for our pioneering work on Forest City in Johor, Malaysia.

The project has been nominated as a finalist in BCIA’s Digital Transformation Project of the Year: Buildings category and sits alongside the likes of Atkins, Sir Robert McAlpine and Zaha Hadid.

While in NCE’s TechFest awards, the project is a finalist for the Cities Visionary Award and will compete against the City of Helsinki, Greenspace Architects and Mott Macdonald.

The project was also recently awarded the Best Smart Building Project at the 5th Annual 2019 Smart City Asia/Pacific Awards in Kuala Lumpur.

Consisting of four huge man-made islands on the Straits of Johor, Forest City has a total land area of 1,386ha with unique challenges that have not yet been tackled in real world scenarios.  An enterprise of Country Garden Pacificview, this smart Eco City will accommodate an estimated 700,000 residents and offer international buyers luxury homes in a multi-layered urban planning concept in lush green surroundings.  The Landmark Building is the focal point of the first phase of construction for Forest City.  BIM Academy’s work alongside software developer EcoDomus was to develop a digital twin of the key building at the centre of the development to serve as a digital asset management resource for the future operation of the city.  The approach will be rolled out across other buildings in the development.

Peter Barker, managing director at BIM Academy said, “We are proud that our nurturing of digital skills within our BIM Academy JV has borne fruit in the export of UK expertise to the international market to serve such ambitious developments as Forest City.”

Dr Wei Zhou, deputy director of Digital Engineering Centre, Country Garden Pacific View said, “Forest City is one of the most ambitious real estate developments currently being delivered, especially in terms of scale, scope and innovation.  The realisation of our vision to create a smart future city by digitising built assets has been empowered through BIM Academy’s unprecedented knowledge, skills and experience.”

Winners will be announced at respective ceremonies on 26 September (TechFest) and 9 October (BCIA).
