BIM Academy’s Mark Crowe will be speaking at the Ecobuild exhibition this March. Mark will be speaking at the event on Wednesday 4th March at 12:30pm about BIFM as well as BIM and case studies we are involved in. The Ecobuild exhibition is taking place throughout 3-5 March at ExCel in London.

BIM Academy were invited to attend a NCE Round Table (it was actually oblong) discussion on 25 November. It was attended by representatives from BCIA shortlisted projects that stood out for their use of BIM, to express their views on what behaviours and contractual mechanisms enabled their use of technology to shine – and what that added to the end product. BIM Academy Chair John Lorimer joined a diverse mix of clients, contractors and consultants.

BIM Academy are active members of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and, together with the Chamber, have secured European funding for BIM Technical Seminars for SMEs in the Greater Manchester Area. BIM Academy will be leading these seminars and further supply chain up-skilling workshops in the new year.

Last week saw the annual conference of the Association of Interior Specialists conference, however now they have merged with the FPDC (Federation of Plastering and Dry-lining Contractors) it is the AIS FPDC conference…… Apparently they are now working on a new organisation name.
I first spoke at an AIS conference back in 2012, my talk then – “BIM, better ways to count”. Since then the AIS has been one of the few trade associations to really push BIM awareness to their members and should be applauded.

Virtual Project CPD – Kent County Council
In the early days of its development BIM Academy designed the Virtual Project course to build on the success and experience they had gained working on a number of international competitions. The course was designed to span over three days, bringing together team members who could quickly asses their capability and responsibility on a BIM project within a risk free environment. For me it had an instant and obvious appeal as it should work for team members with differing levels of expertise without the usual penalties associated with making a mess of things.
